Tanabata is long over...
As usual, I'm busy, but I want to do seasonal events properly, so I coordinated Tanabata with things I had at home and enjoyed it.
The only thing I bought was bamboo leaves.
I also enjoyed arranging cut flowers of hydrangeas blooming on my balcony, which had changed from white to green.
I set the table on a tray because I didn't want to use tablecloths in the hot summer.
Washing and ironing the tablecloths is also hot...
I used green and indigo as the main colors, and layered some blue and white plates on my everyday TY Palace plates.
I used old Baccarat glasses to create a cool look.
In the center, I layered two types of plates by Togashi Takao that I purchased at this year's Tableware Festival.
It's nice even with just one plate, but it's also nice to layer plates with different textures like this.
On this plate, I served eel temari sushi and homemade fried tofu, which was very popular in the previous lesson.
I mixed chopped myoga ginger into the rice for the eel temari sushi.
By the way, my son loves eel.
Even at normal dinners, he asks, "Mom, what's eel for dinner tonight?"
He has some pretty extravagant tastes at three years old, which is a bit of a problem.
And for the Old Baccarat, we had stewed tomatoes.
The round tomatoes look cute in the glass!
And then there was cold corn soup.
I made it with just corn and milk, and it was super rich and my daughter loved it!
For the main dish this year, instead of somen noodles, we had steak marinated in onion koji.
I feel like I've gotten better at grilling meat recently.
In our house, it's an unspoken rule that we don't make any plans for events and just enjoy ourselves as a family, but this year my husband had plans and wasn't there.
So, the three of us - the children and I - enjoyed Tanabata.
Tanabata decorations my son brought home from nursery school.
As usual, my son's wish was for a Thomas the Tank Engine toy.
It's not Christmas, though...
The nursery teacher also asked us to write wishes for our parents, so I wrote mine on the right and my husband's on the left.
My husband's wish that my daughter and I would live together in harmony was a big hit.
Maybe it's because we've been fighting so much.
And lastly, the look on my son's face when he ate the stewed tomatoes.
Rather than wondering if my son would eat it, I was more worried about him breaking the Baccarat glass...
But it looks really awful!
It was probably when he ate the ginger, but he didn't need to make that face...
Even so, my son never says he doesn't like something, but he ate it all up, so it seems he's okay with the stewed tomatoes.
